Ace High (Poker Hand)

Ace High is at the bottom of the pecking order when it comes to the ranking of hands. A player is said to have Ace high when no pair has been made, the player has not made any other hand combination, and holds an ace - making the Ace the highest value card in their hand.

In a game of Hold'em, a player uses two hole cards in combination with the five board cards to make their best 5 card hand. If the best 5 card combination only consist of 5 different value cards (.i.e. not even a pair), and one card is an ace, the player would be said to have 'Ace High'. This is effectively a high card and would be good enough to take the pot if your opponent also had not made a pair and their highest card was lower than an ace.
