A 'Dog' or Underdog

A 'Dog' is a shortened name for an underdog in a hand; a player who is statistically less likely to win with the hand they have. For example, a player with AQ is a huge dog (underdog) against an opponent with AK. One of the reasons why most players don't play any old 2 cards is that statistically, they're not a favorite to win, so it doesn't make financial sense to play them in the long run.

The principle is the same as any other sport in which there is always an underdog and a favorite. The differential between being a favorite or an underdog is based on the odds assigned to each team on their chances of winning.
