The 'Big Blind' is one of the mandatory or forced bets that the two players to the left of the dealer button have to make. Blinds are used in online poker and in live games. The big blind is always posted by the player two to the left of the dealer and is normally double the value of the small blind. These bets are made to ensure there is incentive for players to enter a pot. It also ensures that players don't just fold every hand until they get one of the top hands, as the blinds will continually chip away at their stack.
The dealer button moves round the table clockwise after each hand, so every player takes their turn to post the big and small blind.
